Client Case Study: The Steadiness That Changes Everything
How one leader learned to bring calm to chaos
When Rose first began her coaching journey, life was full.
She was excelling in a demanding leadership position, raising young children, and still managing to make time for early-morning workouts.
On the surface, she was thriving amidst the demands of work and life.
But she felt stuck.
A recent wave of organizational changes had left her feeling unseen and unsupported in her role. And the stress she carried from work had begun following her home - impacting the relationships that mattered most.
“I recognized a need to bring more calm and confidence into both my career and my home life.”
She’d become intrigued by mindfulness and wondered how the Arborvida Approach might support her through this phase of her leadership journey.
Never one to shy away from investing in her growth, Rose knew it was the right time to commit to a mindfulness-based coaching journey.
Learning to Listen Within
Rose leaned into each stage of the Arborvida Approach and built strong relationships with the leaders in her coaching cohort.
But one of the most unexpected transformations in her journey came through a particular practice she implemented to evolve her relationship with emotion.
Like many high-achieving leaders, Rose was used to moving quickly past discomfort. When anxiety or frustration arose, her instinct was often to push past it.
Through the Arborvida Approach, she began practicing something different. Rather than avoiding difficult emotions, she paused to ask herself:
What am I feeling?
Where do I feel it in my body?
What am I believing?
What do I need right now?
The more she practiced, the more instinctive this became. Over time, she recognized that her body often held the clarity and steadiness her mind had been seeking.
“If you’re quiet enough to listen, there’s an intuitive wisdom that knows what’s needed. The mindfulness itself has been life-changing.”
The Confidence to Speak Directly
Under pressure, Rose’s lifelong tendency had been to keep the peace - often diminishing her own needs and perspectives.
But through regular mindfulness practices, she began acknowledging an uncomfortable truth: she needed to speak up about her concerns at work.
Before the conversation, she paused, grounded herself, and chose not to let fear drive her behaviour.
She sat down and spoke with a directness that felt scary but empowering.
“I remembered my voice matters.”
She highlights this conversation as a major milestone in our coaching work.
The outcome of the conversation itself wasn’t the win. More significant was the confidence she gained by having it.
Over time, she began advocating more clearly and trusting that speaking up was valuable - irrelevant of the outcome.
Each conversation became a practice of courageous authenticity. Each practice strengthened her confidence.
Becoming a Source of Steadiness
As Rose became more grounded within herself, she began to notice the ripple effects.
The regular mindfulness practices had given her an outlet for processing stress before it built up and spilled out. The shift changed not only her internal experience, but the way people experienced being around her - at work and at home.
Rose came to more deeply appreciate that she couldn’t control the direction of some organization-level changes or the uncertainty surrounding them.
But she felt empowered to control her presence.
“I wanted to show up calm, steady, and regulated.”
Rather than amplifying anxiety amidst uncertainty, she felt proud to act as a stabilizing force in her organization.
“As I was telling a friend about some recent changes at work, she responded, ‘Wow, you seem so steady and grounded despite it all.”
She gained direct evidence that her inner steadiness was a powerful leadership resource.
Leadership Begins Within
Rose’s confidence and steadiness have allowed her to continue advocating for herself, her team and those she serves. Today, she feels more hopeful and inspired in her career.
Life remains full. Uncertainty still exists. Difficult conversations still need to happen.
But when she faces a challenge, she now returns to one question:
How do I want to show up?
That question has become her compass, helping her meet life’s ups and downs with deeper steadiness.
And from that steadiness, she’s unlocked a deeper well of clarity, confidence, courage, and connection.
