Client Case Study: Feeling grounded through transition

Hope’s journey of navigating operational pressures and pivoting into a meaningful new career

The first time I met Hope, we were together at a remote cabin in the woods. She’d skied in with a hockey bag of supplies and homemade quesadillas on her back. As I learned more about her, I remember thinking, “Damn, this woman is a badass.”

Hope, like many leaders I coach, is highly capable. She has a PhD, an impactful purpose-led career, and is a certified coach herself - with a 30-year personal practice in yoga and self-inquiry.

When we first connected, Hope had spent the preceding year acting two levels above her substantive position in government—managing high-stakes operational demands, navigating significant headcount reductions across her team, and carrying the heavy emotional weight of leading people through uncertainty.

Around the same time, an early retirement incentive had been announced across government. Hope was surprised to learn of her own eligibility and was exploring the possibilities this could open up for her life and career.

The Decision to Invest

Because Hope’s previous year had been exceptionally demanding, she paused before enrolling in the 12-week coaching program.

She was honest with herself about her capacity and questioned whether she had the energy reserve to take on a structured commitment.

At the same time, she knew she needed space to reflect away from the operational noise, and was attracted to the idea of bridging her strong foundation of inner development directly into her executive context as she navigated this season of operational pressure and uncertainty.

Eventually, with the support of her leaders, she decided to step into the 12-week program.

Finding Steadiness In Uncertainty

The Arborvida Approach helped Hope connect her inner work with her daily executive responsibilities.

Through practices that encouraged spaciousness and self-reflection, she began noticing the cumulative weight of the decisions and actions that had been necessary over the previous year - and meeting herself with some gentleness.

Hope’s journey was supplemented with 360-degree feedback, which offered her perspective on how others experienced her leadership. The feedback served as a touching representation of the positive impact she’d created in the lives of others through her work.

Taken together, this contributed to a clearer view of her needs, gifts and desires, which helped inform her way forward.

The Power of a Cross-Sector Peer Container

The bi-weekly Peer Circles became a sanctuary for Hope.

Stepping into a confidential setting alongside leaders from diverse sectors gave her the environment she’d been looking for—a space outside government to learn from people with different backgrounds, engage deeply with the material, and receive candid feedback to support her development.

The peer sessions gave her a dedicated container to process the demands of a challenging year, realign with her core values, and remain connected with a broader vision for her life and leadership.

A Graceful Transition to a New Chapter

Ultimately, the 12-week program became a steadying bridge for Hope’s career.

With clarity replacing doubt, she chose to accept the early retirement incentive—not as an escape from her role, but as an intentional, grounded step into a new form of service.

The program gave her the steadying space to navigate her final months in government with peace, presence, and a clear sense of legacy.

Today, Hope is stepping boldly into her next chapter: returning to school for advanced training in counseling and spirituality while building her own coaching practice.

The Arborvida Approach and Peer Circle offered her clarity and steadiness as she navigated a demanding period of transition and prepared for what’s next.
