Leading Through Uncertainty
I vividly recall the moment I realized I could access a state of inner steadiness amidst outer chaos.
I'm laying in bed awake, wayyyy too late on a weekday evening.
My partner is away for work at a remote mine site with little contact. Another loved one is struggling with severe mental health challenges. And our furnace has just stopped working.
Work demands are heavy, but the least of my concerns.
I’ve taken every conceivable action to respond to the situation, and am keeping my phone close, incase someone needs to reach me.
I feel tired, alone and afraid. I’m overcome by a strong need for certainty and control, yet feeling powerless in the moment.

Desperate to get some rest, I have this instinct to try a mindfulness technique I’ve been practicing.
Within minutes, I feel my perspective broaden and my entire body soften as I touch into this embodied experience of, "I'm ok".
Quickly followed by a profound Aha moment...
A realization that, whatever is going on around me, I have the power to access a place of inner calm and "Ok-ness”.
And that, from that place, I’m so much better equipped to respond to the chaos around me.
I’ll never forget this moment - it’s foundational to the work I now do with leaders.
In times of uncertainty, the capacity to steady ourselves can become our greatest source of strength. It allows us to stay resourced so we can show up with energy and clarity, even as the earth is shifting beneath our feet.
